“Closing Strong”: Ret. Col. Marcus Jones Announces Policies to Benefit Families, Seniors, and Veterans & Reveals Polling Showing AR-02 Tied

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Jones also announced the campaign will increase television ad buy.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Retired Colonel Marcus Jones, candidate for Congress in Arkansas’s Second Congressional District held a press conference announcing his Pro-Family, Pro-Senior, and Pro-Veteran agenda. Jones also referenced recent polling indicating the tightening race and Congressman French Hill unfavorable rating in the district.

“We intend to win the Second District,” said Retired Army Colonel Marcus Jones. “We have the resources we need to compete and the strategy in place.”

Jones referenced recent polling by the Democratic Party of Arkansas that indicated after an informed ask, the race in the Second District is even within the margin of error. Coupled with the Talk Business & Politics polling that shows Democrats ahead by 5 points in Arkansas’s Second District, it is clear this election will be extremely close.

Recent Democratic Party of Arkansas polling details that French’s favorability is underwater – with 40% of respondents indicating they view French Hill unfavorably.

Jones also detailed his plan to buy television and digital advertisements until election day to further spread his message of battle-tested leadership for Arkansas. His first ad, “Hard,” can be seen here >>

“In our ad, when I say I will stand up for Women, Veterans, and Seniors. That’s because those are the constituents who French Hill has failed. Arkansans want a strong nation that protects their family. And they want battle-tested leadership. Today, we are announcing our policies to benefit them.”

Pro-Family Platform:

  • Support a $6,000 Child Tax Credit for Working Families
  • Sponsor national protections for abortions in cases of rape, incest, life and health of the mother
  • Protect access to in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatments and contraception

Pro-Seniors Platform:

  • Protect Social Security and Medicare, securing solvency through 2035
  • Support the Save Rural Hospitals Act to improve access to rural healthcare
  • Support lowering the cost of prescriptions drugs, including allowing Medicare to negotiate pricing

Pro-Veterans Platform:

  • Sponsors legislation to automatically enroll Veterans in VA Healthcare benefits
  • Expand the capacity of VA services
  • Employ a robust congressional office to expand Veteran constituent services

Alongside his policy announcement, Jones announced campaign Co-Chair David Norman, a farmer, small-business owner, and former nonprofit executive from Morrilton, who has extensive experience in international economic development. He joins Pulaski County Circuit and County Clerk Terri Hollingsworth, who was announced as Campaign co-Chair in March.

“The way that he’s been able to relate to people has been really impressive, and I was really proud to have him in my community making those interests known and asking those questions,” said David Norman, Campaign Co-Chair. “And people genuinely felt listened to. Marcus, I really appreciate the opportunity to help out on the campaign. I’m extremely enthusiastic about Marcus Jones and his run for Congress.”

Earlier this Summer, Jones announced on social media an ambitious goal of knocking 10,000 doors in the Second District prior to Election Day. At today’s press conference, Jones announced the campaign has already outpaced that goal and are doubling down ahead of the get-out-the-vote efforts.

“We have out-worked, out-planned, and simply cared more than Congressman Hill. And we are closing strong,” said Jones. We have taken this campaign to college campuses, to VFWs, to main streets, and to gravel roads across the second district. We have taken our message to 15,788 doors, straight to the people.”
